Although 2020 is in the rearview, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons recently published procedure statistics for last year. These statistics show that although the number of elective procedures was down because of the pandemic, people still opted into cosmetic surgery once practices reopened. The top procedures focused on the face, which is perhaps no surprise given the shift for many workers to Zoom videos and chats, which showed us our own faces up-close and personal!
The top 5 procedures of 2020 were:
- Nose re-shaping, 352,555 procedures
- Eyelid surgery, 352,112 procedures
- Facelift, 234,374 procedures
- Liposuction, 211,067 procedures
- Breast augmentation, 193,073 procedures
For those people who were able to work from home, or are still working from home, there has been an opportunity to undergo surgery and then recover in the privacy of their houses, instead of an office. Although facial procedures led the pack in 2020, the ASPS has found that body procedures may prove to be among the most popular of 2021. In a survey of 1,000 women, respondents who said they are extremely likely to consider cosmetic surgery in the next six months also said tummy tucks and liposuction were among the top procedures they were interested in.
